J'appelle chez nous est un projet qui a été initié par Geronimo Inutiq durant une résidence avec le Labo nordique SAW en 2020. C'est durant cette résidence qu'il a eu l'idée de développer un diffuseur virtuel qui émets une émission communautaire en trois langues (anglais, français, et inuktitut) - à présenter en installation multimédia. Le concept de récréation d'un intérieur de maison nordique avec une ou plusieurs ''fenêtres virtuelles'' qui donne vue a une scène arctique, et une émission de radio qui y joue a été développé davantage durant une bourse d'exploration artistique avec le Conseil des Arts en 2021. C'est en 2022 que la première itération de J'appelle chez nous a été présenté en galerie avec le Centre canadien d'architecture. Un partenariat avec l'AGAVF a vu une nouvelle adaptation du projet en une présentation communautaire ambulante et itérative - développée avec des membres du groupe, et en diverses régions du Canada. On continue a tenir des échanges, et à développer le discours autours de comment on relate à cette idée de ce qu'on considère notre chez-soi.

L'équipe qui a contribuée à l'émission pilote de J'appelle chez nous est comprise d'un groupe divers de personnes connectées par leur intérêt dans le sujet de la communauté au travers la diffusion et l'art. Multiculturelle, et inuite -- de différentes classes et locations géographiques -- connecté(e)s ensembles au travers ce programme, ils et elles formes la distribution de l’émission : Geronimo Inutiq; Tommy Kingwatsiak; Jarvis Usuituayuq; John Awa; Annie Hickey; Patrick Michael... et nous grandissons!

 

La réalisation de ce projet n'aurait pas été possible sans le support du Labo Nordique SAW, le Conseil des arts du Canada, le Centre canadien d'architecture, et l'AGAVF. Nous sommes toujours intéressés de continuer les discussions avec de nouvelles voix et perspectives !

I'm Calling Home is a project that was initiated by Geronimo Inutiq during a residency with the SAW Nordic Lab in 2020. It's during this residency that he had the idea to develop a virtual broadcaster that broadcasts a community show in three languages (English, French, and Inuktitut) -- to be presented as a multimedia installation. The concept of recreating the interior of a northern house with one or many "virtual windows" with a view to an arctic scene, and a radio show that plays was further developed during a grant received for artistic exploration from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2021. It's in 2022 that the first iteration of I'm Calling Home was presented in a gallery with the Canadian Centre for Architecture. A partnership with AGAVF saw a new adaptation of the project as an iterative, traveling community presentation -- developed with the help of association members, and in diverse regions of Canada. We continue to have exchanges, and to develop discussions around this idea of how we relate to what we consider our our home.

The team behind the pilot episode of I'm Calling Home is comprised of a diverse bunch of people connected together by their interest in the topic of community through broadcasting and art. Multicultural, and Inuit -- from various classes and geographic locations, and connected together through this program -- they form the cast of the show: ​Geronimo Inutiq; Tommy Kingwatsiak; Jarvis Usuituayuq; John Awa; Annie Hickey; Patrick Michael... and we are growing!
