How media artists can remix and mashup by mining existing archives to create new works - in audio, video, and visual mediums.
We can remix visual content much in the same way how hip hop music employs a technique from DJ culture we can call the remix, or a mashup.
Similarly the "cutup" is a term coined by notorious counterculture icon William S. Burroughs for a literary technique.
The idea of cutting up and recombining sources can also seen in the craft of scrapbooking.
In the image we see above, an archival film from the NFB was digitized. The resulting video was treated through effects plugins in VJ software and recorded. A still frame was made from this. This still-frame was made into a framed print.
