Circumpolar Peoples

"Inuit" is a term in Inuktitut signifying the plural of "inuk." An "inuk" is a human being with a living soul. Inuit are the aboriginal residents of arctic areas of Greenland, Canada, U.S.A. and parts of Siberia. According to Inuk elder and interpreter Leah Inutiq, the area where Inuit and their connected cultural geographic area is collectively known as "ukiuqtartumiut" - the winterlands.
